I’m All In

My wife, Steph, and I have been together half of our lives.  I met her when I was 17 and I am now 34.  So, literally, half of our lives.  She has been with me since a few months after the tragedy, and she was with me when I met the Truth.  She knows my personality and she says I’ve always been ‘All-Or-Nothing’.  This has served me well at times, and well, not so well at times.

With my Kickstarter Campaign, there are many reasons why I chose to do it.  However, one of the primary reasons is because it is All-Or-Nothing.  That means, if I do not reach my financial goal of $7500 by Monday, October 1st at 11:55pm, then I receive nothing.  None of the pledges that were made will be placed into my account.  However, if we are able to reach the goal, then all of it (less the applied charges of Kickstarter and Amazon Payments) will come into my account and we will move forward with the publishing plan and schedule set before us.

As of this writing, we have approximately $3,000 left to raise in just 6 days.  Now, $3000 is a lot of money for a lot of people (most people), but if you break it down like this, then we can make it happen:

If…

300 People Gave $10
200 People Gave $15
120 People gave $25
60 People gave $50
30 People gave $100
15 People gave $200
12 Peple gave $250
6 People gave $500
3 People gave $1000
2 People gave $1500
1 Person gave $3000

As you can see, if we all get the word out and encourage our friends and family to participate, we can do it!  I’m prayerful, I’m hopeful, and I’m all in!

Here are ways you can help me this final week:

  1. Make a Pledge: Any amount will help us reach our goal!
  2. Blog About it: If you have a blog, would you consider doing a post about my campaign with a link to the project?  I’d be willing to do an interview or guest blog as well, just let me know.
  3. Tweet About It: Tell your followers/friends on Twitter about the project and encourage them to participate.
  4. ReTweet My Tweets About It: If you see me Tweet about it, then you can RT it.  My twitter account is: @caseycease
  5. Facebook It: Share links to the campaign on Facebook.  You can click the ‘Like’ button on the Kickstarter page that is under the video and it will post to your Facebook Timeline
  6. E-Mail Friends & Family: Let them know about the project.
  7. Use the Easy URL I made: http://caseycease.com/book <– That will take them to the Kickstarter page.

Let’s do this!

Why I’m Giving My Royalties to Kenya

Screen Shot 2013-08-04 at 12.09.08 AMThis is not a ploy or gimmick to sell books.  It is an opportunity for something tragic to be used for good.  The primary good is to point people to Jesus, the secondary goal is to make a difference in people’s lives.  As some of you may not know, I began speaking to students as a part of probation.  It was not something that I had aspired to, or desired to do, but after the crash, I wanted to make a difference.  In fact, it was a part of my punishment.

Over the years, especially when I was traveling and speaking full-time, my ministry would receive honorariums (payment) for me to speak.  I had made it a point to never charge a set fee, but rather provide a range to my hosts of what I had typically received.  This is my policy, even today.  While I did not believe it was wrong for me to make a living doing ministry, I wanted to have integrity with how the money was used.  This was and is especially true when it came to God’s story as it is shared through my story.

From 2003 through 2009 my ministry has given away over 22,000 copies of my testimony CD throughout the United States and other parts of the world.  I have received numerous emails over the years of how those CDs ministered to people.  All of those CDs were paid for by my ministry and given away for FREE.  It’s not that I couldn’t have sold them, and often times people left donations for them, but since I had freely been given the grace of God, I wanted to give my story for free.

So, as I work on writing my first book, Tragedy to Truth, I have committed that the royalties I receive from the sales of this book will be used to do ministry in Kenya.  As some of you know, I spent 10 days in Kenya this past July and fell in love with the people and with what God is doing there.  The need in Kenya, as with many other parts of the world, is overwhelming, so I am overjoyed to do what little I can.

My board of directors for Transform Ministries is working with me to decide the best uses of these funds, but as of right now, I want to share a few of the things I hope to do with the proceeds:

  1. Return to Kenya in the Summer of 2014 with my family and teach at Kenya Baptist Theological College (KBTC).
  2. Help Christlike Kenya Academy with basic needs like toilets, electricity, and renovations.
  3. Help church plants who are struggling.
  4. Provide training for pastors.
  5. Meet other needs as they arise.

Through Jesus, God is in the business of redemption and transformation.  My hope is that God will use my efforts in my book to see lives transformed by the Gospel, and through the resources that come in through the royalties, to be used to be a blessing around the world.

Reflections on My Trip to Kenya

Part of my heart is still in Kenya and I hope to go back one day.  It is difficult to put exactly into words all that we experienced, but I will do my best to give some of the highlights.

One of the things I didn’t love were the back-to-back 8+ hour flights in coach.  If you don’t know me in real life, I’m a bigger dude, and sitting in confined quarters for 8+ hours is not what I consider to be fun, nor was it comfortable.  However, we made it through our flight to Amsterdam and then after a brief layover, we flew down to Nairobi.

We got into Kenya at night and were picked up by a few friends from the Kenya Baptist Theological College.  We took our hour plus ride up into the mountains of Limuru and made it to the campus and were taken to our cottages.  I roomed with a friend from my church, Scott, who happened to be a former military guy, so he had literally brought his own hammock in case we had to sleep in the bush.  We actually had a place with electricity and plumbing, so I think he was a little disappointed at first.

The first day there we went to the graduation for the diploma students.  I was told that morning that I would say a few words about serving, and then give each graduate a towel to remind them of Jesus in John 13.  I’m used to being put on the spot, and I like to talk in front of people, so I gave a brief sermonette and did as I was asked.  The graduation lasted over 3 hours, which none of our group was prepared for, but we went with the flow.

Saturday we went to the National Park in Nakuru.  We saw tons of giraffes, African Water Buffalo, baboons, a rhino, two hippos, and two lions.  It was a blast.

Sunday I preached at a church in one of the slums in Limuru.  You can see a part of that service in the video at the top of this post.  They actually did a song like an intro to the sermon.  It went on for like seven minutes.  I told Scott that I wanted our church to start doing an intro song, and he said if we did, that he would leave.  I might test him on that one day. 🙂

For the remainder of the week, in the mornings we interviewed students and took their pictures to get their profiles ready for the new HaMoreh Ministries website (Launching Sept 2012) that will afford you and I to sponsor students to get their theological training.  In the afternoon, I had the privilege of teaching theological students.  For a few days I did a mentorship class with a lot of Q&A, and the last day I did a six hour course on expository preaching.  It was truly a blessing and an honor to teach these students.

We went back into the slums on Friday and visited Christlike Kenya Academy, which is a school for children in the slum who have lost parents to HIV or whose parents are sick.  The children were so sweet and seemed very happy (also in the video above).  My heart broke when I saw the holes in the ground that they used for toilets.  So, part of what I want to do in Kenya is help Christlike Kenya Academy and hopefully develop a long-term relationship with them.

As many of you know, I am working on my first book Tragedy to Truth and hope to have it released in February 2013.  I am committed to give all of my royalties to do ministry in Kenya.  My board of directors for my non-profit ministry are in agreement, and we are very excited to see how God uses the book to reach many with the Gospel of Jesus, and how we can make a difference in Kenya.
